Wedding Photo Frame Ideas: 9 Ways to Display Your Photos
A wedding produces somewhere between four hundred and four thousand photographs. Almost all of them live on a phone or a hard drive. Three or four deserve to be on a wall.
Here are nine ways couples in Lucknow actually display them, with the sizes that work.
1. The single large portrait
One photograph, 24x36 inches or larger, in a deep wooden moulding with a wide mount. Usually the first-look or the varmala moment. This is the strongest option and the one most people under-buy. Bigger is better here.
2. The three-frame set
Three matching frames in a row, equal size, equal gap. Works beautifully above a bed or a sofa. Pick one wide shot, one portrait and one detail — hands, jewellery, the mandap — so the set has rhythm instead of repeating itself.
3. The staircase gallery
Frames following the line of the staircase, all the same moulding, mixed sizes. Use acrylic instead of glass on a staircase. It is safer and lighter.
4. The ceremony sequence
Four to six small frames telling the day in order — haldi, mehendi, baraat, pheras, vidaai. Keep them small, 8x10 inches, and keep the spacing tight so it reads as one piece.
5. The canvas piece
No glass, no reflection, printed on canvas and stretched over a wooden frame. Suits candid and outdoor photographs more than posed studio portraits. Very good for high-humidity rooms.
6. The collage frame
One frame, one mount, multiple windows cut into it. Cleaner than hanging eight separate frames and far easier to move. Best for gifting to parents and in-laws.
7. Parents' gifting frames
A pair of matching 12x18 inch frames, one set for each family. This is the most-requested item we make after the wedding season ends, and it is usually the nicest thing a couple does in the month after the wedding.
8. The anniversary frame
One photograph, framed with the wedding date printed on the mount. Small, 8x10 inches, for a bedside or study table.
9. The full wall gallery
Nine to twelve frames, one moulding, two or three sizes, arranged on a grid. Plan it on the floor first, then transfer to the wall. Leave 2 to 3 inches between frames and treat the whole arrangement as one rectangle.
Sizes that work for wedding photos
| Use | Photo size | Finished with mount |
|---|---|---|
| Bedside or table | 6x8 in | 8x10 in |
| Gifting to parents | 12x18 in | 16x22 in |
| Above the bed | 16x24 in | 20x30 in |
| Living room centrepiece | 24x36 in | 30x42 in |
Three things to get right
- Ask your photographer for the full-resolution files. Not the WhatsApp copies. Large prints need the originals.
- Use anti-glare glass on any wall that faces a window. Wedding portraits are usually hung opposite the light, which is the worst case for reflection.
- Hang at eye level. The centre of the frame should sit about 57 to 60 inches from the floor. Most people hang too high.
