Certificate and Degree Framing in Lucknow: Sizes, Prices and Turnaround
A degree certificate is usually the only copy you will ever get. A convocation photo, a licence, an appointment letter, an award from the office — these are documents, not decorations, and framing them badly damages them quietly over years.
This guide covers the sizes certificates actually come in, why a mount matters, which glass to choose, what it costs in Lucknow and how long it takes.
Standard certificate and degree sizes
Most Indian universities, boards and offices issue certificates on one of these paper sizes. Measure yours before ordering — a few universities use odd sizes and those need a custom frame.
| Document | Paper size | In inches | Frame size to ask for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Most degrees, diplomas, marksheets | A4 | 8.3 x 11.7 | A4 frame, or 9x12 with mount |
| Convocation / large degree scrolls | A3 | 11.7 x 16.5 | A3 frame, or 12x18 with mount |
| Older university degrees | Legal | 8.5 x 14 | Custom — measure first |
| Office awards, appreciation letters | A4 | 8.3 x 11.7 | A4 frame |
| Registration / licence certificates | A4 or A5 | 8.3 x 11.7 / 5.8 x 8.3 | A4 or A5 frame |
| Convocation photograph with degree | — | — | Double-opening 12x18 |
If your certificate is even half an inch off a standard size, do not force it into a ready-made frame. Trimming a degree certificate can make it unacceptable for verification later.
Why a certificate needs a mount
A mount is the card border between the document and the glass. On a photograph it is a style choice. On a certificate it does real work.
- It keeps the paper off the glass. Paper pressed flat against glass will stick to it in Lucknow's humidity. Once it sticks, you cannot separate them without tearing the certificate.
- It leaves room for the seal and signature. Embossed seals sit proud of the paper. A mount gives that bump somewhere to go.
- It stops the document curling inside the frame as the paper expands and contracts through the year.
- It looks like it belongs on a wall. A 2-inch cream or off-white mount is the standard for documents; it makes an A4 sheet read as something formal rather than an exam paper.
Acid-free backing matters more than the frame
Ordinary greyboard and cheap MDF backing release acid into the paper over a few years. You see it as a brown tideline creeping in from the edges — and it is permanent. Ask for acid-free backing on anything you intend to keep for decades. It adds very little to the price and it is the single thing that decides whether the certificate survives.
Glass: plain, anti-glare or acrylic
| Type | Best for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Plain glass | Most home walls | Cheapest, sharpest look, reflects light |
| Anti-glare / matt glass | Offices, tubelights, walls facing a window | Kills reflections so the text stays readable; very slightly softens the look |
| Acrylic | Courier, hostels, children's rooms, large sizes | Will not shatter, about half the weight, scratches more easily |
For a certificate wall in an office — doctors, lawyers, CAs, clinics, consultants — anti-glare is almost always the right call. Those walls are lit by tubelights directly overhead and plain glass turns every frame into a mirror.

Framing an office certificate wall
A row of mismatched frames reads as clutter. Three rules fix it:
- One moulding for the whole wall. Same colour, same width, every frame. The certificates differ; the frames should not.
- Align the tops, not the bottoms, when sizes are mixed. The eye follows the top line.
- Keep 2 to 3 inches between frames. Closer looks crowded, wider breaks the group into separate objects.
For a grid of equal A4 certificates, keep the gap identical horizontally and vertically — 2.5 inches works well for a 3-across arrangement at eye level.
Frame the copy, keep the original safe
This is the advice most people wish they had been given. For a degree you may need to produce for a job, a visa, a licence renewal or higher studies, the sensible approach is:
- Get a good quality colour print or an attested copy made.
- Frame the copy for the wall.
- Keep the original flat, in a folder, away from sunlight and damp.
At normal viewing distance nobody can tell. And you never have to open a sealed frame in a hurry the week before an interview.
Turnaround

| Standard A4 / A3 certificate frame | Same day to next day |

Convocation season in Lucknow is busy — if your ceremony date is fixed, give us the sizes a week ahead and the frames will be ready when the certificate reaches your hand.
Before you order, check these
- Measure the certificate yourself in inches, including any border you want to keep visible.
- Decide mount or no mount. For anything you are keeping permanently, mount.
- Ask explicitly for acid-free backing.
- Check the wall lighting before choosing glass.
- If it is a set, confirm all frames come from the same moulding batch.
